Did you see The One Show recently?? Marie Pascal from Performance Interpreting was featured for her work making music events accessible to Deaf audiences.
If you haven’t seen it, take a look: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b0w4bd/the-one-show-30042018 (It’s only available for another 12 days.)
Performance Interpreting (one of our valued members) provide interpreters to many gigs, and music festivals, so check out our listings to find what’s available – is your favourite artist there??
If you have an artist or a band you’d like to see, why not get in touch with her, and see if she can help you get to see them, with an interpreter give some access?
After all the coverage that was made when Sally Reynolds and her friends and family were refused access to the warm up act for Little Mix last year, this is a much more positive story.
This morning on BBC breakfast news Marie Pascal described herself as being 50 percent deaf. This does not help deaf awareness and deaf community as hearing loss CANNOT be measured in percentages. Hearing loss is measured using frequency and decibels and is therefore placed upon a graph called an audiogram. Your hearing outcomes will be noted as Mild, Moderate, Severe, Severe to Profound or Profound. There is no way percentages can be calculated and understanding your own hearing loss helps create awareness.
